CLC Network License Manager 5.5

This release has been made to update the LM-X License Manager software contained in the CLC Network License Manager to LM-X License Manager 5.2.2.

This fixes an issue that caused the software to crash when exposed to intense security scans.

CLC Network License Manager 5.0

The CLC Network License Manager was previously released under the name CLC License Server.

The underlying licensing software in CLC Network License Manager 5.0 is LM-X License Manager 4.9.1. This is the same as in CLC License Server 4.0.

Improvements and bug fixes

  • The name of the software was changed to CLC Network License Manager to better reflect its purpose. The earlier name was CLC License Server.
  • The CLC Network License Manager can be installed on recent macOS versions, including 11.2. CLC License Server 4.0 could not be installed on macOS 15.x and later.
  • The Java version bundled with CLC Network License Manager 5.0 is Java 11.0.10.
  • Fixed an installation issue on macOS affecting systems where the folder /usr/local/lib did not exist prior to running the installer.

 

CLC License Server 4.0

This is a major new release of the CLC License Server, based on the LM-X License Manager 4.9.1.  License files downloaded using the tool provided in CLC License Server 3.6.1 can be used with the new license server version.

Please refer to the manual for further information, including information about upgrading from CLC License Server 3.6.1 to CLC License Server 4.0.

CLC License Server 4.0 includes all the changes made to the LM-X License Manager since the versions included with the previously released CLC License Server 3.6.1. These were LM-X version 3.6.1 for Windows and Linux platforms and 3.6.3 for macOS. A selection of these changes likely to be most relevant to users of the CLC License Server software is included below. Full details of changes implemented since LM-X License Manager 4.4 can be found on the X-formation website.

  • License access rules can be configured on a per-product basis in a straightforward way.
  • License borrowing rules can be configured on a per-product basis in a straightforward way. A configuration option was added to allow local borrow restrictions to be ignored for selected users.
  • A configuration option was added to allow licenses to be reserved for certain users or machines.
  • An example systemd unit configuration file has been added to the Linux distribution.

Changes

  • From this release, only 64 bit versions of the CLC License Server will be made available.
  • The software is now distributed using installer files.
