Position Description
QIAGEN Digital Insights is currently seeking a highly motivated Services Solutions Scientist –working with the sales team supporting bioinformatics software sevices and customization for pharma, biotech, clinical labs and academic institutions in North America.
You will develop an understanding of QDI solutions, and leverage your scientific and project management experience to guide our teams through support, scope new and follow-up on projects. To be successful in this role, you must be comfortable with Life Sciences R&D processes and scientific concepts and clinical labs, and be able to speak confidently and build relationships with Scientific and IT leaders at leading Pharma, Biotech and other organizations.
This position is an exciting role that allows you, as a scientist, to interact with and enable a wide range of researchers across different scientific disciplines using QIAGEN’s bioinformatics analysis software applications and services that provide superior –omics data analysis and biological interpretation.
This is a home-office based role where you will be interacting with customers over the internet and may involve occasional travel to the customer site. You will be responsible for translating customer needs into customized software solutions and/or data analysis projects. You must be able to think and act strategically as well as get into the details of our projects, and understand how our products function. The role is customer-facing and software application-focused and a fantastic position for candidates that enjoy working with people and problem solving. In addition to working with clients, it’s essential that the person filling this role is able to work collaboratively across multiple internal teams. Knowledge of computer programming is not required, but in-depth knowledge of NGS, pathway analysis, and other -omic data analysis approaches is highly desirable. Documenting, tracking, and managing potential projects is also a key activity.
Primary Responsibilities:
– Leveraging deep scientific knowledge to identify customer challenges and map them to QIAGEN’s bioinformatics software services.
– Provide scientific presentations and compelling pre-sales service demonstration for potential customers
– Work closely with customers to understand their product/analysis requirements and communicate these requirements to the internal services team.
– Communicate with external and internal stakeholders and work on project scoping, write statements of work, timeline setting and other pre-sales support activities.
– Engage in scientific discussions with customers and cultivate relationships.
– Work alongside the sales team to develop and nurture key account technical relationships.
– Become a power-user of QIAGEN’s portfolio of services and data analysis and biological interpretation products. These products and services provide gene expression analysis, pathway analysis, sequence variant analysis, microbial metagenomics analysis, clinical interpretation and others.
– Take accountability for closing sales, execution of project work and customer sign-off.
Position Requirements
– Ph.D. or equivalent experience in molecular biology or genetics-related field, including wet-lab work, with focus on the biological interpretation of gene expression, sequence variant analysis, or NGS data analysis using analysis software. Post-doctoral is desired, and existing services support is highly desired.
– Experience in bioinformatics/genomics analysis tools such as Ingenuity Pathway Analysis, Omicsoft Suite, or CLC Genomics Workbench software.
– Experience managing projects with demonstrated ability to deliver successfully within scope, budget, and timeline on bioinformatics projects.
– Experience working at a Drug Discovery/Pharmaceutical company, preferred.

– Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with ability to work as a team.
– Demonstrated excellent written, presentation, and verbal communications skills including demonstrated public speaking experience.
– Aptitude for understanding and communicating complex computational concepts, applications and algorithms to non-computer savvy biologists.
– Ability to multitask a variety of assignments and proven ability to meet strict deadlines.
– Sound judgement, decision making, negotiation, and organizational skills
– Enjoys customer-oriented work with ability to pivot as needs change, while staying on time and within budget
– Demonstrated exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
– Enjoys a dynamic collaborative team environment
– Ability to travel to customers ~20% of the time.
